ABOUT THE COURSE

This short experience is designed to introduce divers to basic technical diving skills and procedures in a confined water setting. Discover Tec may credit toward the Tec Basics and Tec 40 Diver courses.

Curious about technical (tec) diving, but not sure about jumping into a certification course? Discover Tec is a short, confined water experience to try out technical diving. You get to wear all the extra tec diving gear and take it for a test dive. Your PADI Tec Instructor may introduce a few basic skills, such as primary to secondary regulator switch and gas shutdown procedures.

To try Discover Technical diving, you must meet these qualifications:

PADI Open Water Diver

Minimum of 10 logged dives


GETTING STARTED

Contact a PADI Dive Shop to ask about PADI TecRec® courses. Dive centers and resorts that offer technical diving courses will usually display the PADI TecRec icon.

Academic

Your PADI® Tec 40 Instructor will review the dive equipment and how to use it. You’ll get in the water, make dive gear adjustments, explore, and get a feel for how the dive equipment works.

Discover Tec may credit toward the Tec Basics or Tec 40 course if you successfully complete the Tec Basics Dive One, Part One required skills or Tec 40 Training Dive One, Part One. Ask your dive instructor about this option if you’re interested.


EQUİPMENT

You’ll want to have your dive mask, scuba fins and exposure suit. Your PADI Tec 40 Instructor will have the technical diving equipment including but not limited to, two tanks, primary and backup regulators, and a technical diving BCD (wing BCD) suitable for back mount or sidemount diving.

– 3-4 days

Who should take this course?

– To enroll in the Tec 40 course you must be a registered:

– PADI Advanced Open Water Diver

– with at least 10 dives using enriched air to depths greater than 18 metres/60 feet PADI Enriched Air Diver

– PADI Deep Diver or with at least 10 dives to depths of 30 metres/100 feet proof of diving

– You must be at least 18 years old and have at least 30 recorded dives

– You must also have a Medical Declaration signed by a doctor within the last 12 months. Note that certificates of proficiency from other diver training organizations may be valid

– ask your PADI Tec Deep Instructor.

Academic

– The Tec 40 course consists of three knowledge development sections, three practical application backgrounds and four educational research sections.

– The following: – Risks and responsibilities of technical diving

– Technical diving equipment, appropriate equipment and setup

– Gas storage, oxygen limits and ensuring decompression

– Teams such as unconfined pressures, manifold leaks and gas

– Free situations

Equipment

You’ll start with your basic scuba expansion and add technical equipment, which essentially means you’ll be able to double your storage. You can dive with rear-mounted or side-mounted tubes. Your PADI Tec Instructor will allow you to dive with EANx for added conservatism
